Criminal child abduction
What is criminal child abduction?
If a parent (s. 282-283 of Canada’s Criminal code of Canada) takes a child under 14 or 16 in breach of a parenting court order or when there is no custody order OR
If a non-parent (s. 281) takes a child under 14, without the consent of the guardian.
This is a serious offence under the Criminal Code of Canada with potential penalties including imprisonment, and is distinct from parental abduction, though related. If you suspect child abduction, you should call 911 or contact the police immediately.
